Digital comics company Panelfly announced new owners and a new direction at Comic-Con.  Panelfly CEO Wade Slitkin explained the change.  “Understanding that the iPad is much more than an e-books solution, it has much more to offer, how do we fully take advantage of this platform,” he said.  “The much larger picture is TV shows, movies, all these other components that create the full story, and in order for digital to really take hold we need to take all these entry points of interest and pull it all together.  So we announced that we’re going to be working with a team of ex execs from Sony, AOL,  Hulu, and Amazon and using our software to springboard a new initiative--a really deep interactive multimedia application using comics as the keystone.”

The new application will be called Syn, and the plan is for it to allow users to aggregate all the uses of a property using one application.  The app will be free, the content will be paid.

More details will be released in roughly 60 days, according to Slitkin.
