It appears that the Digital Age is upon us, even though it is difficult, in the dawn’s early light, to see how things will shake out.  At Marvel’s “What’s Next —Welcome to the Digital House of Ideas” panel at the New York Comic Con there were hints of big things to come, but relatively little in terms of hard facts.  Marvel’s Manager of Sales Communications Arune Singh stated that he “could safely say” that there were more “day and date” simultaneous print and digital releases coming, but he declined the opportunity to be specific.

With Marvel’s David Gabriel saying yesterday at the ICv2 Conference on Comics & Digital that digital revenues were allowing Marvel to lower their cover prices on print releases (see “DC Lowering Prices in 2011”), perhaps the leading comic book publisher is laying the groundwork for a more robust digital rollout that will contain more “day and date” digital releases.

Certainly it appears that a sizable fan base is ready for digital comic book releases as Marvel SVP John Dokes reported that the Marvel App has been downloaded some 2 million times.
