David Luebke of Dave's Comics in Richmond, Virginia read about DC Comics and Archie Comics leaving the Comics Code Authority (see "DC Leaves Comics Code" and "Archie Drops Code") and had this to say.
I sincerely thank the Comics Code Authority for all of its years of keeping things under control and providing a standard of decency for parents and retailers alike. Too often, I have seen the artist "bad boys" draw genitalia or "secret things" to amuse those in the know. Too often I have seen writers have words slipped into the dialogue between characters that was inappropriate. And if it wasn't for the standards set by the CCA this would be rampant throughout our industry.
So I hope DC and Archie publications are continuing to let the end user aware of what they are about to buy. I am hoping to be able to guide my customers to buy what is proper for their children. It is only fair!!
