Marvel Studios has released a new trailer for Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, which is due to kick off the summer movie season on May 6th. The nearly two-and-one-half minute trailer introduces lots of new footage and focuses a lot of attention on stars Chris Hemsworth and the Oscar-nominated (for Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan) Natalie Portman. The trailer does a good job of mixing humorous elements with snippets of what look like very promising action sequences including more footage of the Ice Giants and the Destroyer.

Portman, who is about as hot an actress as there is in Hollywood today, was obviously a great “get” for the movie. Fortunately for Marvel she wanted to work with Kenneth Branagh, and she was able to help shape her role in the writing stages. She plays an astrophysicist in the movie, and told the L.A. Times that she enjoyed the opportunity to portray a character who was a scientist.
