Kaboom!, the newly constituted kids’ publishing arm of Boom! Studios has announced the March release of Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown the first ever graphic novel based on the beloved comic strip characters of Charles M. Schulz. The graphic novel’s publication is timed to coincide with the DVD release of a brand new animated special from which it was adapted. The animated Happiness Is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown is due out from Warner Bros., on March 29th.
Kaboom!’s Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown is an 80-page, 7” x 10” hardcover graphic novel with a cover price of $19.99. The graphic novel features a combination of such classic Peanuts tropes as Charlie Brown’s kite-flying frustrations, Linus’ insecurities, and Lucy’s unrequited love for Schroeder. It was adapted from the works of Charles M. Schulz by Craig Schulz and Stephan Pastis with art by Bob Scott, Vicki Scott, and Ron Zorman.
Original Peanuts comic book content is not a new thing at all. Charles M. Schulz himself supervised the creation of over 40 Peanuts stories that were written and drawn by others and published by Tip Top Comics during the comic strip’s heyday. Now Warner Bros. is giving the venerable Peanuts animated specials an updating, which should introduce Schulz’s wonderful gallery of characters to a new generation—and Fantagraphics is continuing with the chronological publication of the entire run of the original Peanuts comic strip.
Happiness Is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown is the first publication under BOOM! Studios’ new Kaboom! Imprint, which was launched last week and takes over for the company’s previous all-ages imprint, BOOM! Kids (see “Peanuts Goes Kaboom”).
