Activision scored a big hit in 2010 with its Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions game in which players had to control four different Spidey incarnations in four different worlds. So it’s not surprising that the follow-up game from Activision’s Beenox unit, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, which is due out this fall, features two different versions of the wallcrawler, the classic Amazing Spider-Man and the futuristic Spider-Man 2099—and this time there is even a stronger connection between the two worlds. Decisions made by players in one world will have a direct and immediate effect in the other.

It’s also not surprising that Beenox tapped Peter David to write the backstory/narrative for the new Spider-Man: Edge of Time game since he wrote the 1990s Spider-Man 2099 series (in addition to stints on Spectacular Spider-Man & Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, etc).

The story in Spider-Man: Edge of Time takes place in both the present and the future world, and the game makes use of an all-new “cause and effect” gameplay feature that allows players to see how the immediate (and sometimes unexpected) effects of their actions with one Spider-Man can change the timeline of the other Spider-Man.
