Marvel Studios has tapped Don Payne, who was one of three credited writers on the first Thor film, to write the screenplay for Thor 2, which is slated for release on July 26th, 2013.  Payne, who is a co-executive producer on TV’s The Simpsons, has a number of superhero screenwriting credits.  He wrote the comedy My Super Ex-Girlfriend and also contributed a rewrite on the as-yet-to-be-made Lobo based on the DC comic book series (Guy Ritchie was set to direct the Lobo movie, but chose to helm the Sherlock Holmes sequel instead). 

 

Chris Hemsworth will be returning for the Thor sequel, though director Kenneth Branagh will not be helming it (see “Thor Sequel Set”).  According to Deadline, Payne was also one of the scriptwriters on The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
