Disney/Pixar has released the first trailer for Andrew Stanton's John Carter, formerly known as John Carter of Mars and based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' groundbreaking science fiction novels. Burroughs himself appears in what looks like a framing story for the film, which stars Taylor Kitsch in the title role and Lynn Collins as Princess Dejah Thoris. Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon (the Escapist) worked on the film, which at first glance appears both faithful to its source material and exciting, along with Stanton and Mark Andrews.
John Carter is the first Pixar live-action film. It opens nationwide in 3-D on March 9th, 2012.
