Academy Award winner Hillary Swank is attached to star in and produce an adaptation of Radical Comics’ Shrapnel.  Written by Nick Sagan and M. Zachary Sherman from an original concept by Sagan and Mark Long, Shrapnel is a science fiction saga about a former military officer who organizes a revolt on Venus.  The project takes core elements of the classic western movie and adapts them to futuristic epic on the frontiers of space.

Variety, which termed Swank’s addition to the project a “comic book casting coup,” reports that Toby Wagstaff (Arena) is writing the adaptation of Shrapnel.  No director has been chosen, though several big names are supposedly circling the project.

Swank commented, “Shrapnel and specifically the character of Sam offer me the opportunity to dive into an exciting character with many layers and depth that are rarely found in this genre.”

Shrapnel has already been adapted into an iPhone game and Zombie Studios is also creating a “free” multiplayer Shrapnel game.
