Marvel just can’t help itself. Here’s yet another  November teaser, this time it’s a new version of the Doctor Doom origin story, Victor Von Doom #1, the first book in a 4-issue miniseries written by Nick Spencer (Morning Glories) and illustrated by Becky Cloonan (Demo).

 

This teaser image is interesting because it shows what Lee & Kirby didn’t, Victor Doom’s unmasked face. In fact Ed Brubaker didn’t unmask his protagonist either in his 2005-2006 Books of Doom miniseries, which also tells the origin story of one of the most fascinating villains in the Marvel universe.  The Spencer/Cloonan series, which was teased by Marvel under the slogan “Doomed to Hell,” apparently revolves around the teenage Victor’s quest to liberate his mother from Hell, a futile task that bears some resemblance to the attempts by the Elric brothers to resurrect their mother from the dead via alchemy in Full Metal Alchemist.
