Hasbro has announced new product types for Monopoly, coming in 2025 for the game's 90th anniversary.
The game line will now feature expansion packs, which will breathe new life into this classic game. Each expansion pack adds new cards, rules that speed up the game, and other twists and turns. In the first expansions to be released, there are even rules that allow players to buy the bank itself.
“Monopoly is more than a board game; it’s a cultural phenomenon that has transcended generations and resonates deeply with players across the globe,” said Brian Baker, Senior Vice President of Board Games at Hasbro. “These all-new expansion packs and the completely redesigned classic board game are a result of deep consumer insights, and I think they truly elevate the Monopoly play experience. For example, the Monopoly: Free Parking Jackpot Expansion was inspired by decades of consumers developing their personal house rules, and we wanted to recognize how our consumers have been playing."
The first three expansions will be Monopoly: Go to Jail, Monopoly: Buy Everything, and the aforementioned Monopoly: Free Parking Jackpot. In addition to these expansions, Hasbro also announced that the base Monopoly will get a component and box redesign for the anniversary.
Hasbro and its Wizards of the Coast division had also recently reached an agreement to license Dungeons & Dragons to Internet gambling company Games Global (see "Hasbro Signs ‘D&D’ Gambling License").
