DC Comics has announced the first of three new Road To Perdition graphic novels, written by Max Allan Collins, that will chronicle the six months that Michael O'Sullivan spent on the road with his son disrupting the financial activities of the Capone syndicate.   On the Road to Perdition Book One: Oasis, which will have a cover price of $7.95, is a 96-page, compact format (5.5' x 8'), black-and-white graphic novel featuring art by Jose Garcia-Lopez and Josef Rubinstein.  DC is rushing the book out to take advantage of the Oscar hoopla, which should surround the Road to Perdition film that earned over $100 million at the box office and is sure to garner some Oscar nominations.  The DVD edition of the Road to Perdition film, which was based on the original Road to Perdition graphic novel by Collins and artist Richard Piers Raynor, is due out in February (see 'Road To Perdition DVD'), and the release of a new Road to Perdition graphic novel will provide retailers with an additional product to help them capitalize on the publicity surrounding the release of the DVD as well as the film's expected Oscar buzz.

Unfortunately DC was unable to get the new Road to Perdition graphic novel into the January Previews, which means that retailers will have to order it through their Diamond customer service representative, their DC Comics sales rep, or through Previews Update #555, which will be part of the January 2, 2003 weekly Diamond Dateline.
