When your great aunt wills you 345 key Golden Age issues, she earns the title "great."  The collection, inherited by Michael and Jonathon Rorrer, was accumulated by their great uncle Billy Wright, who bought the comics new when they came out between 1938 and 1943, according to Newsday.  Wright passed away in 1994 at the age of 66.
The collection is being auctioned by Heritage Auctions today, and is expected to bring over $2 million.  The collection includes the two most important books in the DC pantheon, Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27, as well as many other key Golden Age books.  It includes 44 of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide’s Top 100 Golden Age comics.
Given the amount of publicity that valuable comics have received, it’s surprising that new collections of key Golden Age books are still being discovered for the first time.
