Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, based on Brian Selznick’s graphic novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, won five Academy Awards on Sunday, but was denied the best picture award, which went to The Artist. Hugo won for Cinematography, Art Direction, Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, and Sound Editing.
Scorsese took the Best Director award for Hugo at the Golden Globes (see “’Hugo,’ Tintin’ Win Golden Globes”).
