The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a case in which Ty Inc., makers of Beanie Babies, had sued Publications International for the use of images of Beanie Babies in its collector guides, including For the Love of Beanie Babies. The effect of the refusal to hear the case was that the lower court's ruling that the publications were not an infringement on Ty's copyrights stands. Collector guides in many hobbies have used images of copyrighted properties under the 'fair use' doctrine in the past; this ruling means that they can continue to do so.
