Fox’s frantic last-minute push to get a Daredevil movie into production has evidently hit a major stumbling block as director Joe Carnahan tweeted: "Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-style superhero went up in smoke today kids."  Fox has until October 10th to get a Daredevil movie in production or the rights will revert to Marvel (see "'Daredevil' Reboot Running Out of Time").

Director David Slade had been attached to the Fox project and was planning to helm a new Daredevil movie based on the classic Born Again storyline (see "David Slade to Direct New 'Daredevil' Film"), but Slade bowed out of the project in early July due to scheduling difficulties (see "Fox Pushes 'Daredevil,' 'Fantastic Four' Reboots") leaving the project in limbo.

Then came word that action-oriented director Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces) was in talks with the studio to helm a Frank Miller-esque 1970s Daredevil adventure, at least until Carnahan’s second tweet last night, which concluded pessimistically "We shall see.  Time is NOT on anyone’s side."

While Fox stockholders may be upset that the studio could lose the rights to a potentially valuable property, comics fans, cognizant of Fox’s spotty record of superhero adaptations, are more likely cheering the potential return of the Daredevil franchise to Marvel Studios.
