Viva Pictures announced today its acquisition of all U.S. rights to Top Cat: The Movie.  Viva plans a summer theatrical release, followed by VOD, digital and home entertainment releases.

Originally released exclusively in Mexico and South America in 2011 by Anima Estudios (the Latin American branch of Warner Bros. Pictures), the animated film also received a cinematic release in the UK through Vertigo Films in 2012.

Based on the 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon character of the same name, the movie pits "T.C." and his group of Manhattan alley cats against a robotic police force.  Directed by Alberto Mar, the movie features the voice talents of Jason Harris, Chris Edgerly and Bill Lobley.

Top Cat was a Hanna-Barbera prime time animated TV show that aired on ABC in the early 1960s, and the feline’s misadventures were also memorialized in comic books until the early 1970s.
