The CW network has released the first still showing Michael Jai White as the DC Comics character the Bronze Tiger, who will make his small screen debut in the second season of the Arrow TV series, which debuts on October 9th on the CW network. The new photo shows Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen grappling with the claw-wielding Bronze Tiger, who is working for China White and the Triads to gain control of the drug trade in Starling City.
Created in 1974 by Denny O’Neil and Jim Berry for a Richard Dragon novel, the Bronze Tiger (aka Ben Turner) is an African-American martial artist who made his first comic book appearance in Richard Dragon, Kung-Fu Fighter #1 in April of 1975. Michael Jai White, who is perhaps best known for his role as Spawn in the film adaptation of Todd Mcfarlane’s comic, definitely impressed Arrow producer (and comic book writer) Marc Guggenheim, who told TV Guide: "Michael Jai White is playing Bronze Tiger and he is such a badass. His performance, our kick-ass stunt department, our incredibly talented costume designer, and our gifted props master--they’ve all combined their A-games to create a really great representation of this DC Comics character."
The first season of the popular Arrow TV series is due out on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday (see "DVD Round-Up: 'World War Z,' 'Arrow,' 'Adventure Time'"), and the CW recently announced another key casting of a DC hero who will appear in Season 2--Grant Gustin, who will play The Flash (see "Flash Cast") in Season 2, and, the network hopes, in a spin-off series due in 2015.
