Sales of comics and graphic novels to comic stores rose 9.04% in 2013, according to information released by Diamond Comic Distributors this week. Periodical sales led the category, with a 10.22% increase over 2012; graphic novels were not quite as strong at a 6.5% increase over 2012 sales.
Big Two shares declined, reinforcing a five year trend (see "Big Two Comic Publishers Lose Share").
Image Comics dominated the bestseller charts, winning both the top comic and top graphic novel slots (see "Image Had Top Comic and Graphic Novel of 2013").
