Producer Dave Filoni brought Star Wars Rebels art director Killian Plunkett and voice actors David Collins and Vanessa Marshall to WonderCon where they showed a preview clip that highlights the combat skills of hotshot female pilot Hera, who is voiced by Marshall, and appears to be one of the major protagonists of the new series. The clip makes it clear that the feisty Hera will be a character that should broaden the gender appeal of the new Star Wars cartoon series that will debut on the Disney XD network this fall (see "'Star Wars Rebels' News").
Filoni and Plunkett worked together for eight years on the highly successful Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, and told the WonderCon audience that eight years of experience in developing a coherent science fiction universe will allow them to create in Star Wars Rebels a more coherent and unified look throughout all the various worlds of the Star Wars universe.
The clip and WonderCon commentary also make it clear that the producers of Star Wars Rebels are attempting to recapture the infectious "devil-may-care" enthusiasm of the original Star Wars trilogy, an intention that ICv2 reported back in January (see "Disney Is Taking 'Star Wars Rebels' Back to Its Roots").
