San Diego Comic-Con News: At the Legendary Pictures panel Godzilla director Gareth Edwards appeared via video to confirm that he would be helming the sequel, which was announced after the monster film earned more than $200 million during its first weekend (see,"'Godzilla' Sequel Planned"). Edwards’ first Godzilla film has earned nearly $500 million worldwide so far, and reinforcements are on the way for the sequel. At Comic Con Legendary flashed footage of Godzilla’s adversaries for the sequel, and the audience went wild as images of classic kaiju villains Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah flashed across the screen.
Of course before he directs Godzilla 2, Edwards has to finish up a little directing job he took on the side and deliver the first stand-alone Star Wars film adventure, which is due in theaters on December 16, 2016 (see "Director Signed for First Stand-Alone 'Star Wars' Film").
