With San Diego Comic-Con now being as much of a platform to court the geek movie-goer as the actual comic fans, several Hollywood studio announcements were made in Hall H, and we’ve taken the opportunity to update our Best in Shows index (see "Best in Shows Index") with the following features.

Marvel and Disney announced five more placeholder dates for movies right before SDCC (see "Marvel Grabs Five More Movie Dates") and shortly thereafter called "dibs" on the May 4, 2018 date vacated by Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 4 sequel (see "Marvel Grabs 'Amazing Spider-Man 4' Date”).  At the Avengers 2: Age of Ultron panel, they then announced that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would take that July 2017 date (see "'Guardians' Sequel Due on July 28, 2017”".  Marvel also recently announced their over-arching strategy is to fill those dates with one sequel and one new character film per year (see "Marvel Studios Planning 'One Sequel and One New Character Per Year'").

Legendary Entertainment announced plans for a King Kong feature set on the gargantuan gorilla’s home island (see "'Skull Island'"), due in Q4 2016 (see "Best in Shows--Q4 2016").  That quarter is getting crowded, as November 2016 is also the planned month for Sony’s Sinister Six Spider-Man spin-off (see "'Sinister Six' Spin-Off Boots 'ASM 3' to 2018").

Universal Pictures also recently swapped the planned date for their Mummy reboot with the prequel of Snow White and the Huntsman in mid-2016, according to Variety, with The Huntsman moved up to April 22, 2016, and The Mummy being pushed back two months to June 24, 2016 (see "Best in Shows--Q2 2016").  That will put The Mummy just a week before the Independence Day sequel, which was moved again last fall, moving back a year from an Independence Day weekend 2015 to July 1, 2016--a date it now shares with the Warner Bros. reboot of Tarzan and an Angry Birds animated feature (see "Best in Shows--Q3 2016").
