Marvel Comics has announced a licensing agreement with X3D Technologies, which grants X3D the exclusive right to produce 3-D comics based on more than 50 Marvel superheroes. X3D plans to launch its line with six different comic titles based on Spider-Man, X-Men, and the Incredible Hulk. The 3-D comics come packaged in countertop display boxes that hold either 18 or 36 units. Each unit includes special X3D glasses and a mini CD-Rom that contains one full comic and plays on any computer (PC or Mac) that has a slide out CD tray. The individual units have a retail price of $4.99. X3D is clearly hoping that these 3-D comics will be point-of-purchase impulse items. Display boxes can be ordered from Diamond Comic Distributors or (for non-comic shops) directly from X3D Technologies.
