Marvel Comics has announced the January debut of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1, a new ongoing series written by Eisner Award-winning writer Ryan North (Original Sin, Adventure Time) and artist Erica Henderson.  This marks the first ongoing dedicated series for Squirrel Girl (aka Doreen Green), who was created by Steve Ditko and Will Murray for Marvel Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #8 in January of 1992.
 
Squirrel Girl’s ability to control squirrels has proven to be surprisingly effective over the years as she has managed to defeat the likes of Wolverine, Doctor Doom, Deadpool, and Thanos.  A prime member of the Great Lakes Avengers, Squirrel Girl and her best friend Tippy-Toe (Monkey Joe, her first arboreal rodent sidekick, apparently will remain among the deceased) is about to face her greatest challenge ever--college.  And it appears her pursuit of higher education will also put her up against some of the toughest foes in the Marvel Universe (Whiplash and Galactus).
 
In addition to the standard cover by Erica Henderson, Marvel is also prepping variant cover designs for The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1 by Art Adams and Siya Oum.
