The new Transformers animated series from Hasbro Studios, Transformers: Robots in Disguise, is heading to the Cartoon Network as Hasbro’s The Hub network, which has been the home of the previous new Transformers series (Transformers Prime) morphs into its new identity as the Discovery Family channel (see "Discovery Takes Control of the Hub"). The new Transformers: Robots in Disguise series will debut on the Cartoon Network in the first quarter of 2015.
The new series will actually be the second Transformers cartoon with the title Robots in Disguise. Hasbro imported the Takara-produced cel-animated Transformers: Car Robots in 2001 and renamed the standalone series (it is unconnected to the any of the previous Transformers narratives) Transformers: Robots in Disguise. Showings of the original RiD series were disrupted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which caused some re-editing--and the joke-filled original RiD series has yet to be released here on DVD.
According to The Wrap, the new Robots in Disguise series, which will be computer-animated, will also have a light, breezy tone. "Robots in Disguise begins a brand new chapter in storytelling, filled with great humor, lots of fun adventure and animated in a cooler, lighter, brighter style that we know kids are going to really love," Stephen Davis, president of Hasbro Studios and global entertainment & licensing for Hasbro, Inc, said. "Robots in Disguise is reflective all that we have learned in our conversations with kids. It has the most relatable Autobot and Decepticon characters we have ever ‘Rolled Out’ in a Transformers animated series."
The new Robots in Disguise series takes off in the wake of Transformers Prime. Kid favorite Bumblebee takes the lead here. Summoned by Optimus Prime to defend Earth from a new wave of Decepticon attacks, Bumblebee assembles a rogue team of young Autobot heroes including Sideswipe, a Mini-Con named Fixit, a Dinobot, and an Elite Guard cadet for a series of exciting, kid-friendly adventures.
