American Splendor, which opened in only six theaters last weekend (see 'American Splendor Theater List'), topped the dollars per theater rankings for the weekend, with $26,000 per screen, according to Box Office Mojo. The next highest gross per theater was Freddy vs. Jason, which had an average gross of $12,085 per theater. Freddy vs. Jason was the top film of the weekend, with an estimated $36.4 million in total box office sales.
American Splendor opens in another 25 theaters next weekend, and in more every weekend thereafter for a number of weekends.
