Sandman author Neil Gaiman is the subject of a major feature article by David Colton in USA Today.  In the lengthy profile Colton touches on Gaiman's friendship with singer/songwriter Tori Amos, his creation of the Sandman universe, and many of his other projects including his novel American Gods and his new series for Marvel, 1602.  According to Colton more than 7 million Sandman comics and books have been sold since Gaiman refurbished the character.  The article also uses (without attribution) ICv2's widely accepted market size estimate of $100 million dollars for graphic novels and gives Gaiman much of the credit for creating the growing category.  Colton notes that Sandman: Endless Nights has had a record first printing of 100,000 and quotes DC's Paul Levitz, who exclaims: 'What Neil and his collaborators have achieved is America's first world-class graphic novel.'
