Characters from DC Comics have had a long and distinguished run in various branches of the media dating back to the 1940s when the Fleischer Superman cartoons had a tremendous impact on the imaginations of a generation of kids who were living through the perilous days of WWII.  In the 1990s the Batman Animated series raised the standards for TV superhero animation with stylish, noir-influenced graphics.  Currently it's the Teen Titans who represent the DC tradition on the small screen, but what's next?  According to the new issue of License! magazine it could be Krypto, Superman's pet dog, who will get his own animated series in 2005.  The first canine-centric animated DC series could also be the first DC cartoon targeting a very young demographic -- 3-6 year-old kids.

While the target demographic for the Krypto series could make it largely irrelevant for pop culture retailers, it is still to early to write it off completely.  A lot will depend on which company gets the toy license for Krypto and what kind of products they create -- who wouldn't want a cool Krypto figurine?  At the very least a new generation of kids will learn the essentials of the Superman mythos at a very early age.
