According to Variety, Jim Carrey is set to star in a remake/comic send-up of the 1970s TV series The Six Million Dollar Man. Carrey will team with director Todd Phillips, who is just putting the finishing touches on a comic version of another 1970s TV series, Starsky & Hutch. Carrey, who specializes in over-the-top, highly stylized comedy, views this project as a wildly exaggerated send-up of the explosion-happy modern action film blockbuster.
The original Six Million Dollar Man TV series, which was based on Martin Caidin's science fiction novel Cyborg, sold a ton of action figures in its day. It should be interesting to see what kind of toy and comic book tie-ins might be created by the new Six Million Dollar Man, which is likely to be a major release in the summer of 2005.
