According to Variety, the WB Network is about to make a commitment for the production of a pilot episode of a new version of Dark Shadows, the legendary vampire soap opera, which aired on ABC from 1966-1971. Dan Curtis, who produced the original series, is resurrecting it for the second time -- a 1991 attempt failed because of competition from extensive war coverage of 'Operation Desert Storm.' If the new series gets the green light, it should debut in primetime on the WB during the 2004-2005 TV season.
In addition to various DVD collections of the original series, a number of books about the gothic soap are still in print including Kathryn Leigh Scott's Dark Shadows: Memories and Dark Shadows Almanac, as well as Craig Hamrick's Barnabas and Company.
