Halle Berry's daring fashions for this summer's Catwoman film have inspired apparel company Briefly Stated, Inc. to produce a line of licensed sleepwear and daywear for women, juniors, and tweens. Catwoman, which is slated to debut on July 30 (see 'ICv2 Retailer Calendar'), is the subject of some controversy in comic fandom, where expectations for the film remain quite low in some quarters in spite of the obvious charisma of Halle Berry in the leading role and the visual brilliance of the film's French director Pitof (Vidocq). It is quite possible that the Catwoman movie could bomb with the male-oriented superhero fans, but still find success with female audiences. Certainly Briefly Stated is hoping that females will respond to the film and purchase Catwoman-branded cami-tops, boxers, sleep tees, lounge pants, tank tops, panties and thongs.
