Sony Pictures Animation has announced its first feature-length computer-generated film, Open Season, which will feature the vocal talents of Martin Lawrence, Ashton Kutcher and Debra Messing. Inspired by the syndicated cartoons of Steve Moore (In the Bleachers), Open Season is the story of the unlikely pairing of a 900-lb. domesticated grizzly bear and a scrawny mule deer, who manage to turn the tables on the hunters who are out to get them. Jill Culton, who wrote the original story for Pixar's smash Monsters Inc. (and also worked on Toy Story 2) will direct while the digital animation will be provided by Sony Pictures Imageworks, the computer special effects wizards responsible for the effects in Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. Open Season is slated to debut in theaters in 2006.
