CrossGen will not be participating in this year's Free Comic Book Day. The American Power series, written by Chuck Dixon and illustrated by Greg Land, has been cancelled. CrossGen's FCBD giveaway was a 'prequel/intro' for the American Power series, and it is now too late for the publisher to retool and come up with another title in time for Free Comic Book Day. Reportedly CrossGen's new investors were not happy with the militant pro-American stance of Dixon's new series, which had already stirred up considerable interest thanks in part at least to a strong cover image in which a muscular masked avenger is about to pound a horizontal Osama Bin Laden look-alike. Writing on his Website, Dixon refused to take umbrage at the cancellation, noting, 'The reasons for the cancellation are very inside CG. It has a lot to do with future plans for the company. It is NOT another sign of the apocalypse for CrossGen. It was done for strictly business reasons that I am not going to make public right now.'
