Joe Krolik of Comics American in Winnipeg, Manitoba saw the news on the Free Comic Book Day Date (see 'FCBD 2005') and the responses, and has an idea on how to use the May date to improve tie-ins to comic-based movies:

From the responses to date, it's a unanimous vote for the first weekend in May each year.  That's great.  There is one added benefit to this consistency.  In the past the theory has been that if we move the date to coincide with a major motion picture event, we will get better attention.  Let's turn this around:

If we hold FCBD on a predictable timetable each year, FCBD now becomes an opportunity for motion picture studios to seek us out to do advance promotion for their upcoming properties.  This becomes a win-win situation for everyone!  Imagine if, in addition to the free comic books we offer, studios make available free promotional goodies which are unique to FCBD.  They get the benefit of our audience which is their prime target.  We get the benefit of unique (collectable?) items that every movie fan as well as every comic fan might just be eager to possess, thereby potentially increasing the attendance at FCBD by one whopping whack-load of people.  Plus, it makes FCBD the event to be involved with each year.  Sort of like San Diego being the convention to be involved with each year.  Get the idea?  FCBD takes on a life all its own.

And then we get the media involved to do the promotion right...  The possibilities are endless.
