According to an announcement on Mike Grell's Website, IDW is bringing Grell's Jon Sable, Freelance back in a new mini-series that is currently scheduled for a March 2005 debut.  Created by Grell in 1983 and published by First Comics, Jon Sable was a 'freelance mercenary and paladin for hire.'  Grell considers Sable his favorite creation and it's easy to see why, since Sable perfectly reflects the mood of the era with numerous background, physical and ideological similarities to 80s action heroes such as Magnum, P.I.  After a stint in Vietnam, Sable worked as a safari guide in Africa until poachers killed his family.  Returning to New York, he became a freelance mercenary involved in all sorts of interesting capers.  Grell's comic series inspired a short-lived (6 episodes) TV series, memorable primarily for Rene Russo's sexy character Eden.

Jon Sable will be the second First Comics hero resurrected by IDW, which announced a revival of Tim Truman and John Ostrander's Grimjack in June (see 'IDW Gets Grimjack').
