Universal Studio Consumer Products Group has licensed IDW Publishing to publish a five-part comic book adaptation of Universal Pictures' horror film, George A. Romero's Land of the Dead, which is scheduled for release on June 24th.  The Land of the Dead comic is a monthly, full color, 32-page five-issue miniseries with issue #1 debuting in August.

Romero resurrected the zombie genre with his groundbreaking Night of the Living Dead film in 1968, which played with the conventions of the Hollywood horror film and brought a savage ferocity to the genre.  He followed this low budget black-and-white epic, which was shot in the Pittsburgh area, with two color epics, Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Day of the Dead (1985).  Dawn of the Dead was given a big budget Hollywood remake in 2004 (which also spawned a comic book), but now Romero himself is returning to the genre with Land of the Dead, which is set years in the future well after Romero's original Dead Trilogy.

Chris Ryall is writing the comic book adaptation of Land of the Dead, while Gabriel Rodriguez provides the interior art.  The first issue will sport two covers, a special photo cover and an art cover by newcomer Chris Bolton.
