ICv2 had a chance to talk with several Manhattan retailers today and found that they were soldiering on in spite of disruptions in traffic and daily life created by the heinous terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.  As one would expect, the farther south in Manhattan the dealers are located, the more problems they have had.  As of Thursday, UPS was reportedly not delivering south of 14th Street, which has made things difficult for retailers in the Village.

Midtown Comics  (200 W. 40th St.)

Gerry Gladston of Midtown Comics told ICv2 today (Thursday): 'We are open for business today.  It's a somber atmosphere in New York City today.  Midtown Comics is somewhat busy today, but lighter than usual.  There have been lots of bomb scares in nearby buildings causing people to leave work earlier than usual.  We may not stay open until 9pm tonight.  We'll see how the evening shapes up.

Jim Hanley's Universe ( 4 W. 33rd St.)

Jim Hanley's Universe was open on both Wednesday and Thursday.  A spokesman told ICv2 that traffic in the store was down considerably, but that a large portion of the store's regular clientele had really stepped up and made a point of supporting the shop during this time of need by buying what they could.

Village Comics (214 Sullivan St)

Village opened again on Thursday, though traffic was very light.  As of Thursday night the store had not yet received its UPS comic shipment since UPS was not delivering below 14th Street.  Nevertheless the staff was working today, taking care of paperwork and gearing up as the Greenwich Village area gradually returns to a more normal state.
