In celebration of five years in the toy business, SLG Publishing has announced an ambitious slate of toy release for 2006.  Retailers who have carried SLG's previous toy offerings have repeatedly told ICv2 how well these items, which generally receive only direct market and specialty store distribution, have done for them.  Some of SLG's first toy releases such as Filler Bunny and Spooky Squeak toys (both of which were based on the works of Jhonen Vasquez, creator of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac) were legendary sellers for retailers who also did well with SLG's goth-tinged graphic novels.

In March SLG/Monkey Fun will release Mummy, a vinyl and plastic toy based on the Mummy character from The Super Scary Monster Show featuring Little Gloomy.  This Mummy is not to be confused with that bundle of bandages from Universal.  Designed by Little Gloomy artist Eric Jones, this 'eternal one' comes complete with bass guitar, spooky bass amp and his own faux-stone platform -- all packaged in a full color window box for an SRP of $29.95.

The second Monkey Fun release of 2006 is Voodoo Valerie, a sassy plush voodoo doll taken from the pages of the cult hit comic book Outlook: Grim.  Designed by Outlook: Grim creator Black Olive, Voodoo Valerie sports bobbed hair, a mini-skirt with a skull belt buckle, and striped stockings-everything you need but the pins for an SRP of $19.95.

June is National Dairy Month so it is only fitting that SLG/Monkey Fun should release a vinyl toy set of Evan Dorkin's Milk and Cheese.  Standing a full eight inches high these figures will come with their traditional weapon accessories include a Hammer Time sledgehammer, a broken bottle and a plank of wood with a nail in it.  The Evan Dorkin Milk & Cheese Vinyl Figures will also come packaged in a four-color window box.  The SRP is yet to be determined.

In July Monkey Fun is planning two releases, a limited edition (of 750) six-and-one-half inch resin statue of the ass-kicking librarian Rex Libris (SRP $25) and a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac Mug sculpted by Thomas Kuntz from a design by Jhonen Vasquez and featuring the 'Z?' logo as seen throughout the comic series.  The mug will have a highly detailed poly-resin exterior and a food-safe plastic interior.  No SRP is available for this item yet.
