Focus Features, a division of NBC Universal, has picked up the world distribution rights to Coraline, the stop-motion film based on Neil Gaiman' children's novel (see 'Coraline Movie Set').  The announcement from Cannes, reported by Variety, means the film should get broad theatrical release.

The article also noted that Mike Cachuela will be co-director with the previously announced Henry Selick.  Cachuela has a long career as a storyboard artist on films ranging from Nightmare Before Christmas to The Incredibles.  He is also credited as 'story artist' on Tim Burton's Corpse Bride.

Dakota Fanning will voice the lead role (see 'Dakota Fanning Voicing Coraline').
