FUNimation has come up with an interesting promotion to get consumers to try four of its high profile anime releases produced by Gonzo by shrink-wrapping together two DVDs from different Gonzo-produced series and pricing the package very attractively (MSRP $29.98 for the two disks vs. $24.98 for each of the disks on their own).
One of the Gonzo Double Packs includes Basilisk Vol. #1 and Trinity Blood Vol. #1, while the other contains Speedgrapher Vol. #1 and Desert Punk Vol. #1. The Double Packs allow potential customers to sample these high profile anime series at a very reasonable cost.
Although the average SRP for anime DVDs has declined from $26.33 in 2005 to $25.43 this year, the cost of a single anime DVD is still higher than any other comparable category other than successful theatrical releases (and still way above the typical American TV on DVD release), so any sort of price reduction in the anime category is welcome, particularly in view of the potential for illegal downloading and copying.
The fact that FUNimation is doing this sort of price promotion with new high profile series such as Trinity Blood should ensure maximum interest among fans and provide anyone looking for a gift for an anime devotee this holiday season with a potential winner.
Trinity Blood in particular is teed up for a strong launch. It debuted on Adult Swim this September, and should also benefit from Tokyopop's release of Trinity Blood novels & anime (see 'Tokyopop to Publish Trinity Blood Novels).
