Fantasy Flight Games has several new board-game expansions coming up, including one for the alternate-history WWI game Tannhauser, to which FFG recently acquired the rights. The expansions complement FFG’s big releases for late 2009/early 2010: Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd Edition (see “Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd Edition”) and War of the Ring: Collector’s Edition (see “War of the Ring: Collector’s Edition”).
Tannhauser is set in 1949, in a world where World War I has continued for 35 years. FFG first released an English version of the game in 2007 (see “Fantasy Flight to Release ‘Tannhauser’”) but will now take over the design and production of new expansions for the game as well. FFG will translate and edit the previous license-holder’s (French manufacturer Take On You) expansions, starting with the Daedalus map pack, and then produce its own supplements and expansions, starting with a 2nd edition rules set (to be compatible with the 1st edition) that will be available for free download from the FFG Website
, or for purchase as a book for $5. The new rulebook will be included in the new boxed set for the game, releasing later this fall or early next year, with future expansions to follow.
FFG’s other expansions include Talisman: Frostmarch, which comes with four new figures, new rules, and new endgame possibilities apart from the Crown of Command, such as warlock quests or battling the Ice Queen. FFG plans to include new endgames with all future Talisman expansions.
BattleLore: Dragons and BattleLore: Creatures are two new upcoming expansions for the fantasy strategy combat game. Dragons comes with three dragons and additional cards, while Creatures comes with the earth elemental and hill giant figures, previously only available as promos, and a hydra figure with detachable heads.
Sea of Blood is a naval-themed expansion for the dungeon-crawling board game Descent.
Like The Road to Legend expansion, players can form a party of adventurers to grow and expand their abilities. Sea of Blood comes with a two-sided map, with open sea on one side and a chain of islands on the other, and new counters for ships. Look for
