Days of Wonder will release Small World—Tales & Legends, an expansion for its hit Small World boardgame, around July 1st at $15. A copy of Small World is needed to play. The core game was released last spring; two mini-expansions were released at
Tales & Legends was designed by Laurent Verrier, who was the Special Prize Winner of the Small World Design Contest last fall, with “additional development assistance” by Small World creator Philippe Keyaerts.
The expansion adds 54 large-format Event cards, organized into six different themes. They’re also rated by their impact on the game, from Little Lore (minor effect) to Tall Tales to Lordly Legends (which will turn your Small World upside down). An event card is drawn at the beginning of each turn and put into play, and the next Upcoming Event is also visible.
Small World has become one of the best-selling boardgames in the hobby game market (see “Top Q4 2009 Board, Card, and Family Games”), and won Games Magazine’s Game of the Year (see “’Small World’ Takes Game of the Year”).
