Days of Wonder will offer an expansion, Necromancer Island, for the award-winning Small World boardgame at the Spiel fair in Essen, Germany this October.  Days of Wonder will give a free copy to each attendee who purchases a copy of Small World at the fair.  After the fair, the expansion will be made available through retail stores in Europe and North America.

Necromancer Island will be a small scenario pack, suitable for three to six players.  One player assumes the role of a Necromancer who inhabits a small island in the center of the board.  He can use tokens lost by the other players to create ghosts with which he can conquer surrounding areas.  The Necromancer begins the game relatively weak, but grows in power during the game.  The other players must cooperate to contain the Necromancer before he becomes too powerful, while they compete and battle each other for control of the map.

The expansion also allows the addition of a sixth player to the game.

“Necromancer Island is a small token of our appreciation for the reception Small World fans have given the game since its launch,” says Days of Wonder CEO Eric Hautemont.

Necromancer Island was designed by Philippe Keyaerts, the designer of Small World.  It includes rules in English, French, and German, a “Necromancer Island” tile, a “Well of Souls” tile, and 14 Ghost tokens.  A copy of the boardgame is required to play.
