HBO’s Game of Thrones series will premiere on the network on April 17th, according to Variety.  The series (see “Emilia Clarke Joins ‘Game of Thrones’”), one of HBO’s most expensive ever, has completed shooting in Malta and Ireland. 

 

If successful, the Game of Thrones series has the potential to raise move a lot of game merchandise based on the George R.R. Martin novel series Song of Fire and Ice, as the HBO series is. Fantasy Flight Games has the Game of Thrones boardgame and card game, as well as the Battles of Westeros miniature game. Green Ronin has the Song of Fire and Ice RPG. 

 

FFG’s games that share the Game of Thrones name with the HBO series probably have the greatest potential to gain from the association with the TV show.
