Rio Grande Games is planning a Q1 2012 U.S. release for Carcassonne: The Castle-Falcon (MSRP $17.50), an expansion for the two-person Carcassonne game.  Designed by Reiner Knizia and Klaus-Jurgen Wrede, The Castle-Falcon expansion was listed by Alliance Game Distributors as a December shipping product, but Rio Grande Games has told ICv2 that “We are hoping to have it by February.”

In The Castle—Falcon Expansion the Prince is growing up and he has developed a fascination with falconry, which leads to a proliferation of falcon’s nests in the castle.  Also the influence of religion on the castle is increasing and the possibility arises to add chapels to the castle.

The basic two-person Carcassonne: The Castle game, which was designed by Knizia and Wrede, debuted in 2003.  It is a stand-alone tile-placement game that takes place in one of the cities built during the original multi-player Carcassonne game designed by Wrede.  The Carcassonne family of board games is a fixture on ICv2’s list of the “Top Ten Board Games.
