DC Studios has released a trailer and announced a drop date for the second season of James Gunn's Peacemaker. The trailer shows John Cena as Peacemaker being interrogated by Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, and Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord. Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the new season, including the first episode, according to Deadline. The first episode will drop on August 21.
Netflix has released the trailer for the second The Old Guard feature, which will drop on July 2. Charlize Theron plays the lead, Andromache of Scythia, the leader of a group of immortals that ply their trade for those that can afford them. The film adaptations of the comics by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez went into development in 2018 and was acquired by Netflix in 2019 (see "Netflix Gets ‘The Old Guard’"); Netflix released the first feature, for which Rucka wrote the screenplay, in 2020.
The next film in Warner Bros. and Legendary's Monsterverse will indeed pair Godzilla and Kong for the second time, under the title Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. The commencement of production was announced with a teaser video (below). The film will take the March 27, 2027 date previously reserved for the next installment (see "Monsterverse Film Incoming"). Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire brought in monster box office receipts in its theatrical release last year (see “’Godzilla x Kong’ a Monster”).
Warner Bros. has set the date for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum as December 17, 2027, a year after the originally planned 2026 release date (see "’LotR’ Film in 2026"), according to Variety. As planned, Andy Serkis will direct and play the title role, with Lord of the Rings producers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens producing.
Coyote Vs. Acme, the Warner Bros. animated film completed and then deep-sixed for a tax write-off in 2023, has found new life and is headed to Cannes to find distribution, according to Variety. Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor star in the film, which was directed by Dave Green, and written by Samy Burch based on the New Yorker article "Coyote vs. Acme" by Ian Frazer (see "’Coyote vs. Acme’"). Chris DeFaria and James Gunn produced. The completed film was acquired from Warner Bros. by Ketchup Entertainment for a reported $50 million.
