Alderac Entertainment Group has announced four new game titles, a card game and a family of three board games, for fall of 2012.

AEG revealed a new card game that is slated for release at Gen Con.  Smash Up, designed by Paul Peterson (Guillotine), is a “shufflebuilding game.”  It’s different from a deckbuilding game in that the game includes eight different complete decks.  Each player chooses two decks, shuffles them together and plays the game.

The decks are based on the following popular fantasy genres: aliens, ninjas, pirates, dinosaurs with lasers, zombies, tricksters, lizards and robots.  Each of these groups has a unique special ability that is used in game play.  For example: the zombies deck utilizes the ability to rise from the graveyard.  The pirate deck move players around and so forth.

Smash Up will release in August, will retail for under $30 and will be for ages 15 and up.

In a fairly novel concept, AEG will release three new board games in a shared universe, the City-state of Tempest.   Each board game is unique in its foundational mechanics, with different style, look and feel, but will all share the same locale and set of characters and personalities.  Although the games are still in development, two of three have working titles.  The first, Dominare, is what is called a personality control game.

Mercante will be an economic merchant-style game.  The third is as of yet untitled but will be an area control-style game.  All three of these Tempest Universe games will be released in October and will be for ages 15 and up.  More details will be released in the coming months.
