Wizards of the Coast has announced the summer release of the Duels of the Planeswalkers: 2013, the new iteration of the “video game” version of Magic: The Gathering. The new version of Duels of the Planeswalkers will be available for the iPad for the first time along with Xbox Live, Arcade, Steam, and Playstation networks. With its easy-to-use tutorial Duels of the Planeswalkers is the best way for new players to learn how to play Magic.
The integration between the traditional Magic: The Gathering TCG and Duels of the Planeswalkers goes beyond the latter’s utility as a teaching tool. Duels of the Planeswalker: 2013 players will be the first to get to see cards for the new Magic 2013 Core Set that is due in July (see “Magic 2013 Core Set”).

The Duels of Planeswalkers: 2013 will introduce 10 new decks, optional manual mana tapping, and other features. It will also provide players with an enormous challenge, playing against Magic’s ultimate evil mastermind, the dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas. The original Duels and Duels 2012 (see “M:TG Duels of the Planeswalkers: 2012”) have been downloaded more than 2 million times since the original launch of the MTG video game in 2009.
WotC also announced that the Magic Celebration event is back for its second year at participating Wizards Play Network locations across the globe. On September 8th, 2012 players will converge on their local WPN stores in what is the “must-attend” Magic event of the year. All attendees will receive a special code to unlock a digital item in the Duels of the Planeswalkers game.
