Score will follow up Dragonball Z, its strong initial entry into the collectible card games arena with a CCG based on another very hot property, the popular Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV series. Senior Game Designer Jim Ward (shown here with a stand-up of Buffy star Sara Michelle Geller) will oversee the development of the new game. Ward built a strong reputation as the head of product development at TSR and more recently as designer of the DBZ CCG, which continues to be a strong performer in the games marketplace (see 'Top Ten Cool Lists For January').
With its powerful appeal to the hard-to-reach teen demographic, the Buffy TV series is currently being courted by several networks, though it appears likely that it will be back on the WB this fall. The Score Buffy CCG should also be out this fall. No details are known at this time, but a rollout of starter decks and one series of boosters appears likely. The strong performance of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Board Game from Hasbro is one incidation that a Buffy CCG could do well, although the CCG will probably appeal more to a hardcore gamer. With a strong roster of complementary products including Buffy and Angel comics series from Dark Horse, trading cards from Inkworks, toys from Diamond Select, and the board game from Hasbro, the new Score CCG can be one element in a boutique based on this successful TV property.
