CoolMiniOrNot has finished another successful Kickstarter, this time netting $718,000 for its new fantasy miniatures war game, Wrath of Kings.
The project netted $718,152 from 3,756 backers over a 32 day Kickstarter campaign. While not quite enough to earn a place on ICv2’s Top 10 Tabletop Game Kickstarter list (see "Top Ten Tabletop Game Kickstarters"), that is still a respectable $191.20 per backer on average.
Wrath of Kings is a miniatures war game set in the fantasy world of Arikania, where five factions (Shael Han, Nasier, Teknes, Goritsi, and Hadross) vie for control of a fractured kingdom, each employing different magical and technological specialties. The game play relies on chain of command structure, so if leaders are killed, the armies become less affective. The game boasts a unique one roll resolution system, so combat is fast, fluid and tactical, without bogging action down in tedious tracking. The faction starter sets contain 24 - 30 unpainted plastic models, usable in scalable battles from 10 - 50 models per side. Each starter set carries an MSRP of $60.00.
If trade prices stay true to Kickstarter estimates, the hardcover rulebook will carry an MSRP of $25.00, and additional faction infantry boxes will have an MSRP of $35.00. "Specialist" minis will be sold separately or in pairs for $15.00 - $20.00, but there are several figures that are exclusive to the Kickstarter campaign. CMON estimates Kickstarter fulfillment for May 14, 2014. Trade release will follow in June.
CMON also told ICv2 that they have already begun work on the second book for the line, and there are definite plans for future expansions.
Company co-founder David Doust spoke to ICv2 about their Kickstarter-to-Trade Model at Gama this spring (see "CoolMiniOrNot's Kickstarter-to-Trade Model").
